Sextant - Bronze - J. Coombes sextant (1891

Coombes from Devonport was a supplier of high-quality optical equipment for the Royal Navy. This sextant has an interesting history. Originally owned by Eric William Westgarth Ling, (1887 – 1951) Lieutenant Commander Royal Navy. Later in World War II donated or sold to the US Maritime Commission, which needed navigation sextants and could not supply that need itself at the time. After the war, sold. Inventory label present.

The sextant is in very good condition with no signs of wear. Bronze frame with brass graduated arc with silver or platinum graduation marks. Complete with all accessories, sighting lenses and filters. In a hardwood case with key and calibration label from the US Naval Observatory dated August 1945."
