Indo-Heriz hand-knotted carpet from India, wool on cotton, 200 × 140 cm, 21st century, in very good condition.
Description from the seller
Indo-Heriz carpets are hand-knotted carpets from India, made in the style of the traditional, robust Heriz carpets from Northwest Persia. They combine the classic geometric design of the originals with the typically more affordable production conditions in India.
Here are the essential features:
Design and pattern: Indo-Heriz carpets are characterized by a very distinctive geometric design. In the center there is almost always a large, square medallion, surrounded by geometric patterns and broad borders.
Colors: The color palette is often vivid and high-contrast, with red and blue tones dominating, often in combination with beige or rust tones.
Durability: They are, just like their Persian counterparts, known for their longevity. They typically consist of high-quality wool on a sturdy cotton warp, which makes them very durable.
Structure: Compared with finer Oriental carpets, Indo-Heriz carpets are rather roughly knotted (usually 80,000 to 160,000 knots per square meter). This makes the pile dense, thick and firm.
Use: Due to their robustness they are excellent for heavily used rooms such as dining rooms, living rooms or hallways.
In summary, Indo-Heriz carpets are a good choice if you are seeking the ancient, rustic charm of Persian Heriz carpets, but you prefer a better price-performance ratio.
Condition: The rug is in good condition, high pile,
