Description from the seller

Saint George defeating the dragon, one of the most recognizable scenes in Eastern Christian iconography.
Saint George and the Dragon

The saint on a white horse: a symbol of purity and spiritual victory.

The spear piercing the dragon: represents the triumph of good over evil (and of faith over paganism or the demon).

The winged dragon: a figure of evil conquered.

The figure on the right (a princess or royal figure): the rescued princess, according to legend.

The medallion in the upper left corner with Christ: indicates that Saint George's victory is by divine intervention.

Golden background: typical of icons, symbolizing the celestial world.

Russian or Balkan Orthodox icon

Probably between the 18th–19th centuries (although it could be inspired by older models)

It is not just a “heroic” scene; in Orthodox tradition it symbolizes:

The inner struggle against evil

Faith as a spiritual weapon

The martyrdom and sainthood of Saint George
