Description from the seller
Adalberto Dias: Arquitecturas
Texts by Sandro Ruffone
Adalberto da Rocha Gonçalves Dias was born in 1953 in Porto. An architect, he graduated from the Porto Academy of Fine Arts, and he collaborated with architect Siza Vieira between 1971 and 1977. Since 1977 he has practiced independently. His works have been awarded and published in books and specialized journals both in Portugal and abroad. He was a candidate for the Mies van der Rohe Prize in 1996, the IberFAD Prize in 1996, and the Secil Prize in 1998. He curated the redevelopment of Area A East (Batalha) as part of Porto’s bid for European Capital of Culture in 2001. He is a professor at the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto.
Adalberto Dias’s works were not created to be photographed, but to be visited and lived in, guiding his work toward the responsibility of judgment and action evoked by Adolf Loos, which, returning to Távora, means that he does not scatter space but enriches it within the environment he transforms. A crime against space – wrote Távora in the conclusion of his essay Da organização do Espaço – is one of the worst injustices that man can inflict on nature and on himself... a positive action offers the guarantee that this is one of the highest functions that man can choose for himself.
Raffone S.; Adalberto Dias: Arquitecturas. Hardcover, dust jacket, 25 x 26.5 cm, 175 pages, Portuguese/Spanish language; Kaleidoscope, 2005.
The volume presents itself in overall good condition. Dust jacket with slight marks. Cover with small diffuse stains along the margins. Binding well secured. Interior pages clean, with no creases or stains. A good collectible/consultation copy.
