Serrà Escrivà was a Spanish painter of the 20th century linked to the Mediterranean landscape tradition. His work is characterized by a loose and vibrant brushstroke, with special attention to natural light and color, depicting rural and folkloric scenes with great atmospheric sensitivity.

The composition represents a rural landscape in full transhumance, where a shepherd leads a flock along an irregular path that crosses damp and rocky terrain. The scene unfolds on different depth planes: a foreground with spontaneous vegetation and a thickly laid brushstroke, a middle ground where the action develops with the shepherd and the livestock, and an open background toward a bright valley with softly bluish mountains.

The treatment of light stands out, bathing the scene in a naturalistic atmosphere, and the use of a loose brushstroke, typical of the impressionist language, which brings dynamism and freshness. The greens, ochres and blues combine harmoniously, evoking rural life and the movement of the landscape.

The work is presented in a dark-toned carved wooden frame, with a molded and stepped profile that adds depth. Inside, a cream-colored passe-partout with a gilded filet enhances the painting’s luminosity and creates an elegant contrast, framing the scene with classical sobriety.
