Description from the seller
Lladró Herons Vase — Silver Lustre.
This stunning piece belongs to Lladró’s celebrated Re-Deco collection, which breathes new life into classic designs from the Lladró catalogue through a bold and contemporary decorative approach. The vase (approx. 36cms height) achieves a remarkable visual tension between past and present — its timeless silhouette reimagined through the striking contrast of a soft matte white porcelain body and luminous silver lustre detailing. The metallic finish beautifully accentuates the intricate relief work of wetland foliage and reeds at the base, while the majestic herons — rendered in pure white porcelain — rise gracefully upward, their silver-tipped beaks catching the light with quiet drama.
Designed by acclaimed Spanish sculptor José Luis Alvarez, the piece showcases his mastery in balancing classical form with modern sensibility. Multiple herons are depicted in natural, dynamic poses, creating a sense of movement and life that is rare in decorative porcelain. The vase format adds further elegance, making it as functional as it is sculptural.
At the heart of this work is Lladró’s extraordinary manufacturing heritage. Founded in Valencia, Spain in 1953 by three brothers — Juan, José, and Vicente Lladró — the company operates a single factory, La Ciudad de la Porcelana, where every piece is made entirely by hand. This facility employs hundreds of specialist artisans — sculptors, mould-makers, kiln technicians, and painters — each contributing their expertise to a meticulous production process that can span many months. Spain’s deep ceramic tradition, rooted in centuries of Moorish and Mediterranean craft, provides the cultural foundation from which Lladró’s artistry continues to flourish. Every piece carries that heritage proudly.
