Description from the seller
7 guilders Northern Netherlands. Republic, 1581-1795 - Holland - Half-Gold Rider or 1760, Dordrecht FDC
Province of Holland half-gold rider 1760 – 7 guilders, mint master Otto Buck, mint mark rose.
Half-gold rider or 7-guilder piece, dated 1760, struck for the Province of Holland within the Republic of the Seven United Netherlands. A very representative gold coin from the late-provincial minting, in which Holland, as financial center, played a leading role in European monetary circulation.
The obverse shows the armored knight on horseback, riding to the right and waving with an uplifted sword above the crowned arms of Holland. In the legend MO: AUR: PRO: CONFŒD: BELG: HOLLAND the gold issue of the confederated Dutch provinces is named. The mint mark rose and the name of the mint master Otto Buck place this specimen clearly within the Holland production of this period.
The reverse shows the crowned coat of arms of the United Provinces, with the denomination 7 GL and year 1760 above the crown. The whole is surrounded by the motto CONCORDIA RES PARVÆ CRESCUNT, emphasizing the political and economic cohesion of the Republic.
Struck in gold 0.920 with a weight of 4.98 grams and a diameter of 21.5 mm, produced with a pressed technique and a beaded edge.
An exceptionally attractively well-preserved specimen in FDC quality, with full strike, sharp detail and gold luster, in which both the technical finish and the iconography are expressed to their best.
