Description from the seller

Russian Cast Bronze Icon with Crucifixion and Selected Great Feasts
Old Believer tradition, late 18th – first half of the 19th century
________________________________________

Presented here is an authentic Russian Orthodox cast bronze icon with a multi-scene composition, uniting the central event of Christianity — the Crucifixion — with key Gospel feast scenes.
This is a refined and spiritually cohesive devotional object, created within a tradition where theological meaning and artistic density are inseparable.
________________________________________

Iconography:

The composition follows a classical hierarchical structure:
• Upper section: The Crucifixion of Christ with attending figures
• Lower register: four festive panels, including:

o The Annunciation
o The Nativity of Christ
o The Baptism of Christ (Theophany)
o A scene from the cycle of Great Feasts (in the tradition of the Twelve Great Feasts)
The icon represents a condensed theological cycle, bringing together the key events of Christ’s earthly life within a single image.
________________________________________

Material and Technique:

• Copper alloy (bronze/brass)
• Cast and subsequently hand-finished
• Well-defined relief with clear detailing
• Natural, undisturbed patina
________________________________________

Signs of Authenticity:

• Visible hand-finishing marks on the reverse
• Absence of industrial stamping
• Lively, non-mechanical relief modeling
• Traces of mounting and long-term devotional use

These features clearly indicate traditional artisanal production, rather than later mass manufacture.
________________________________________

Origin

The icon was produced within the Russian cast icon tradition closely associated with the Old Believers, who preserved and developed this form of metal icon production throughout the 18th and 19th centuries.
________________________________________

Dating:

Late 18th – first half of the 19th century
________________________________________

Condition:

• Good overall condition
• Relief remains sharp and legible
• Natural patina, not aggressively cleaned
• Signs of age and use consistent with authenticity
________________________________________

Dimensions:

Height 14,5 cm
Width 8,5 cm

________________________________________

Collectibility:

• Classic and sought-after type of Russian cast icon
• Balanced and complete composition
• Authentic surface with no restoration
• A genuine historical devotional object with character
________________________________________

Conclusion:

A true devotional icon where faith, craftsmanship, and time converge.
Created not for display, but for life—making it especially meaningful and desirable today.
