Description from the seller
Marjolein Deurloo (1981) is the creative mind behind Novel Grey. Driven by a fascination with materials and forms, she creates sculptural wall objects with her husband Jan-Paul that invite both looking and touching. Every work begins as an intuitive exploration of repetition, contrast and understated simplicity, with tactility at its core. Their process is rooted in curiosity and explores how a surface catches light, how a texture feels under your hand, and how something unexpected from the everyday can emerge. This work subtly surprises, slows down your gaze, and invites the viewer to keep discovering.
In line with this approach, the Concrete Cushions Series was created. Despite our intention to bend the material to our will, it ultimately leads us to its own form. The radiance of the unique piece Concrete Cushion No 22. astonishes and challenges. It plays with your expectations. Soft, warm and subtly disorienting, the object reveals itself as a quiet surprise.
