Description from the seller
Mercedes-Benz 280 SE 3.5 V8 Automatic – The authentic charm of the vintage V8
Icon of Mercedes, the 280 SE with the rare 3.5 V8 engine delivering 200 HP, has been registered with ASI as a vehicle of historical interest, previously Swiss-registered with license plate BE 322384, a car that represents the timeless elegance and solidity of the Star. A model increasingly hard to find, especially in this V8 configuration, code 116.980, appreciated by collectors and connoisseurs.
MECHANICS:
The engine runs perfectly, the automatic transmission is smooth and fluid, delivering a quiet and authoritative drive, as only a Mercedes of this level can offer. Work has already been carried out: new fuel pump, spark plugs replaced and tank cleaned, ready to be enjoyed on the road; the periodic service has been performed by the previous owner recently, so I do not know the exact date, as well as the replacement of the fuel lines from the tank to the engine. The car will nevertheless be handed to the buyer with an additional service: oil change, oil filter, air filter.
BODYWORK:
The car requires partial body restoration, with localized interventions due to rust on the sheet metal around the right front headlamp frame, at the bottom of the left trunk and slightly less on the right, dent on the right front fender and left rear fender, light superficial rust at the bottom. The trim along the doors must be partially replaced, the chrome bumpers and grille are in excellent condition, they only need to be polished with specific products, some door seals must be replaced due to wear, moreover the right front tailgate latch must be slightly adjusted as the hatch does not latch and close perfectly. An ideal project for someone who wants to restore the antique splendor of a historic V8, starting from a healthy and mechanically reliable base.
INTERIORS:
They feature the original upholstery; the front seats require targeted work on the fabric section to preserve the authenticity of the leather, which with careful cleaning will return to its former glory (surface cleaning already done). The fabric on the rear seats shows some wear, but at the buyer’s discretion whether to replace it or preserve its originality with some flaws.
The carpet covering the underside of the car needs a thorough cleaning; the front mats must be replaced due to wear.
The dashboard, which features a wood section and a leather section, needs attention on the top where sun exposure has caused cracks in the leather; some dashboard details should be reviewed. The door panels are in perfect condition, and like everything else interior-wise, require meticulous cleaning.
A car that is not just a means of transport, but an experience, a sound, a piece of German automotive history.
Perfect for those seeking true emotions, character, and rarity.

Catawiki always aims to offer you the best possible buying experience. Our experts virtually review and select every vehicle in line with our submission guidelines and we require our sellers to provide the most accurate description of the vehicle. However, providing a fully detailed analysis of the vehicle is extremely difficult, and close to impossible. To guide you, we ask our sellers to provide information about the vehicle’s condition. Please consider that most vehicles for sale are classic vehicles and they often already have a whole life behind them, meaning that even a condition 1 or 2 vehicle might need maintenance to be ready for the road. It is advised to carefully read our submission guidelines that further describe details about the condition grades and types to manage your expectations. Cars are sold “as is”, meaning as described and in the condition they are in at the time of the sale and without any representation, warranty or assumption of liability of any kind as to the condition by Catawiki or by the seller. The condition of this item is the opinion of the seller and may differ from yours, your local garage, or the dealer’s opinion. This does not automatically mean the car does not conform to its description. Before bidding, please check your local legislation regarding vehicle registration. Neither the seller nor Catawiki is responsible for the registration of the vehicle in your country and will not accept a cancellation for your failure to register the vehicle. We also recommend that, if possible, you arrange a viewing with the seller before placing a bid.
