Frans Breuhaus de Groot woonde en werkte tot 1838 in Leiden, daarna in Den Haag. Ook heeft hij verscheidene reizen naar Duitsland en Belgie gemaakt. Frans Breuhaus de Groot was een van de beste leerlingen van Andreas Schelfhout. In 1845 werd hij lid van de Koninklijke Academie te Amsterdam. Frans Breuhaus de Groot schilderde in romantische stijl, zomer en winterlandschappen en enkele strand en zeegezichten. Diverse tentoonstellingen en werk van zijn hand in bezit van o.a. Haags Gemeentemuseum.
