A wine rack that doesn’t behave like a wine rack…

This is the Umbra Grapevine, designed by Ran Lerner in 2009 for Umbra!! A sleek, sculptural object in high-gloss black, made for six bottles. The form sits precisely between space age, Y2K design and modern barware. Curves, openings, shine and graphic shadows. Not a classic wooden rack for the utility room. This belongs on a bar cart, in a loft, beside a designer kitchen or in a cocktail corner where someone has actually thought about atmosphere.

The design works almost architecturally. The bottles lie horizontally in the organic openings, while the rack itself stands upright as a black glossy statement piece. Without bottles it is almost a sculpture. With bottles it suddenly takes on that hotel bar vibe.
