Wonderful antique painting from the mid-19th century depicting Saint Nicholas of Bari. The painting is finely embroidered with silver thread on Sal Leucio silk. The Saint is depicted with mitre and pastoral staff entirely embroidered in silver, surrounded by floral motifs also finely embroidered in silver and beads. The craftsmanship is of exceptional execution with the name beneath carefully hand-embroidered. The gilded wooden frame is not period. A work of great prestige with significant historical-cultural value. The saint appears blessing, with three children before him in a barrel.
