Description from the seller
Carpentry of Avant-Garde: Table '611' – Design Silvio Coppola for Bernini (1960s)
We present at auction a emblematic piece of Italian design from the 20th century: the '611' table by Silvio Coppola for Bernini. Made in the 1960s, this model represents a peak of elegance and functionality, distinguished by its most sought-after version, complete with integrated ceramic containers that transform it into a dynamic and cultured furnishing object.
Design and History: The Presence of Noble Walnut
The 611 table is a perfect synthesis between Lombard cabinetmaking tradition and the geometric rigor of modernism:
The Nobility of the Wood: Coppola chooses noble walnut to define the project’s soul. The structure and the top highlight the natural grain of the wood, giving the piece a warm and authoritative presence capable of defining the architectural space without resorting to decorative excesses.
The Centerpiece Ingeniousness: The distinguishing feature of this edition is the integrated housing system in the top. The table is equipped with three ceramic containers that can be exposed to host objects or plants, or concealed at will by perfectly coordinated walnut panels, restoring the top to its formal continuity.
Rigorous Proportions: Every detail, from the leg joinery to the top thickness, responds to a design vision that blends the solidity of solid wood with the lightness of the 1960s lines.
Lot Conditions: State of Preservation and Authenticity
- The specimen is presented in excellent working condition, preserved with the care necessary to enhance a piece of high craftsmanship:
- Surfaces and Structure: The structure is solid and intact. The walnut wood has been treated with professional products that bring out its deep veins, preserving the precious original patina. Only light and natural signs of use and aging, consistent with the object’s history, are noted.
- Ceramic Accessories: The three original bowls marked Bernini are in excellent condition and fit perfectly in the prearranged compartments.
- Certification of Authenticity: The originality is guaranteed by the Bernini label under the top and by the mark inscribed on both the structure and the bottoms of the ceramics, confirming the total integrity of the set.
