Panel - Wood - Duel between Paladins

Rare original fragment of a Sicilian cart (mascedda or side frieze) from the early 20th century. The painting depicts a lively battle scene between French champions, central figures of the Opera dei Pupi and of the Sicilian chivalric tradition.
Four warriors in full armor face off in a foot duel, armed with swords and shields. The composition is rich in dynamism, with colors still vivid despite the signs of aging.
The upper part is enriched by an elegant carved wooden frieze with vegetal motifs, framing the painted scene.
