Description from the seller

ROMAN INTAGLIO 100-200 AD.

Lovely Roman intaglio in carnelian,
Representing the goddess Athena/Minerva.
The goddess is stylized and holds a branch of mistletoe or laurel in her right hand.
The stone is in perfect condition and offers an orange translucent spectacle when illuminated.
The Romans' choice of this stone was evident due to the quality and hardness of carnelian.
Indeed, once mounted in a ring, it allowed it not to stick to the wax when the seal was used, in contact with wax.
We are here in the presence of a jeweled seal in orange carnelian from the High Roman Empire.
Seize this beautiful object, witness to our past, from a bygone era that fascinates us all.

This jewel can again be mounted on a ring in silver or yellow gold or on a pendant setting.

A Roman intaglio of this size is rather rare! (2.4 cm)
The average size is 1 cm, 1.5 cm.

Mounted in a modern ring, it is valued at about €3,500.

Mounted on an original Roman mount in gold, it reaches €7,500–€10,000.

Shipping will be handled with a tracking number, which implies higher shipping costs but priced by the Belgian Post.
