Rare professional jeweler's chest from Caplain Saint André, historic supplier to Parisian jewelry and watchmaking. Authentic workshop piece, a testament to the artisanal craftsmanship of the Third Republic.
Dimensions: 30 x 33 x 22.5 cm
Description:
Solid oak chest with a beautiful golden honey patina, typical of an age over a century. Slotted tambour lid sliding on a curved rail, a marquetry/cabinetmaking technique characteristic of the late 19th century. 5 drawers with brass double knobs, central lock with an oblong brass escutcheon, and a carrying handle with a rounded-end arch, typical of Belle Époque professional hardware. Manufacturer's nameplate present.
Era: Belle Époque, circa 1880-1910. Probably intended for a Parisian jeweler or watchmaker.
Condition: Good overall, fully consistent with age and professional use. Tambour mechanism functional. Note: one drawer button missing (easily replaced in antique hardware shops).
