Tall wooden candlestick with a gilt finish in Baroque/Neoclassical style, dating to 1850–1900, about 74 cm high with a 24 cm wooden base.
Description from the seller
tall floor or altar candlestick, made in Baroque/Neoclassical style. It is a decorative piece that evokes liturgical tradition, probably originally used in a religious setting or in a noble residence.
The candlestick features a slender, turned shaft with several decorative elements:
At the upper and central parts, foliate motifs (acanthus leaves) and bulbous sections are visible.
The finish is in gilt gold (or gold leaf), which shows a beautiful patina of age with some areas where the underlying bole shows through, giving the object an antique and authentic appearance.
Base: The original base of the candlestick is a tripod with scroll feet (volutes), typical of the nineteenth century.
Additional support: The candlestick has been mounted on a circular base in solid walnut wood with steps. This is often a later intervention to provide greater stability to the object or to adapt it as a modern piece of furniture.
Summit: It ends with a wax-catching plate and a central metal point (nail), intended to fix large wax candles.
Dimensions
Total height: Approximately 74 cm (excluding the metal point).
Diameter of the wooden base: 24 cm.
