Pillbox - .800 silver - Ernest Eschwege (1900)

Beautiful French oval silver snuff box, decorated with an engraved relief depiction of angels (also known as putti) on the lid.
The sides are often adorned with fine foliate motifs.

Such boxes were historically often used as snuff boxes, pill boxes, or for storing other small trinkets.

Manufactured by the French silversmith Ernest Eschwege (1866-1941) who was active from 1890 to 1921.

This box would date from around 1900.

Silver hallmark “Minerva”
Master mark “initials EE” and a small symbol of a diamond in the middle”.

After decades of careful collecting I have decided to part with (part of) my collection. I am giving these special objects a place with a new enthusiast who understands the value of historical preservation. It is time that these pieces receive the attention they deserve, so they are preserved for the distant future as well.
