Description from the seller
SWITZERLAND. Bern. 5 Francs. 1948
- Value: 5 Francs.
- Year: 1948.
- Inscriptions: On the obverse, HELVETIA accompanying the allegorical female seated beside a child bearing a branch, with the engraver's signature WEGER; on the reverse, 5 FR · CONSTITUTIO · ANNI MDCCCXLVIII · HELVETIAE FORTIORIS FUNDAMENTUM · 1948, with the Swiss cross at the bottom.
- Grade: MS65 (NGC).
Commemorative coin issued on the occasion of the centenary of the Swiss Federal Constitution of 1848, the foundational text of the modern Swiss federal state.
The obverse features an allegorical composition of great artistic quality, in which Helvetia is portrayed as a maternal and protective figure, accompanied by a child who symbolizes the nation’s future, with a soft and balanced modeling of the reliefs.
The reverse, solemn and epigraphic in character, stands out for its clear typographic layout and the strong symbolic charge of the Swiss cross, reinforcing the institutional message of stability and constitutional continuity.
The specimen retains an attractive original lustre with a light, homogeneous patina, well-defined relief and clean fields, showing only light contact marks in keeping with the MS65 grade, making it a very representative and valued piece within 20th-century Swiss commemorative numismatics.
