Brief history of the Accutron
After more than eight years of research, testing and trials, Bulova Accutron was marketed in 1960. And the wait was worth it. The first fully electronic watch, the Accutron represented the most important horological innovation of the last three centuries.
The rest is history. The Accutron took over. Chronometry The world on the attack.
The revolutionary approach that made it possible was to use tuning fork technology in a watch mechanism. This idea, over a century old, was developed by Bulova engineers under the direction of Max Hetzel, resulting in the first use of this technology in a wristwatch.
