Description of the Lotto
Annual official medal issued by the Secretariat of State of the Holy See in 1989, to celebrate the eleventh year of Pontificate of His Holiness John Paul II.
This issue holds particular artistic and theological significance, being dedicated to the Encyclical on the dignity of women, "Mulieris Dignitatem". The work is signed by the artist Silvia Petrassi and minted by the Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato (IPZS).
Technical Characteristics:

• Edition: 6,000 numerated specimens (Specimen no. 3094/6000)
• Edge: Carries the inscription "E CIVITATE VATICANA" and the progressive number of the medal.
Artistic Description:
• Obverse: Solemn profile bust of the Supreme Pontiff facing right, in a prayerful stance. Around, the inscription: IOANNES PAULUS II P.M. ANNO XI.
• Reverse: Artistic depiction of Jesus meeting the Samaritan woman at the well. At the top appears the autograph inscription of the Holy Father: "MULIERIS DIGNITATEM". In a circle, the Evangelical phrase: "CHI BEVE DELL'ACQUA CHE IO GLI DARO', NON AVRA' MAI PIÙ SETE". The monogram of the Institute (IPZS) and the artist's signature are present.
Conditions and Set:
The medal is presented in FDC (Fior di Conio) condition, with a splendid natural patina. It is accompanied by its complete original accessories, essential for collectible value:
1. Numbered warranty certificate from the Secretariat of State.
2. Original rigid case with gilded papal coat of arms.
3. Original outer box (cardboard) with lid."
