Description from the seller

August Rieger

Vienna 1886 – 1941 Vienna

bottom left signed and dated "6/VI 1930 August Rieger"
bottom right labeled "Innersetal(?)"

Dimensions without frame
Height: 17.5 cm, Width: 16.5 cm

August Rieger's artistic talent was not fostered by his parents' home, which is why he initially worked as a freelance artist and as a civil servant by profession.

His real name was August Vorhauer; he worked under the pseudonym August Rieger.

His great idol was Carl Moll, whose style and color palette greatly inspired him. Over time the two artists came to know each other and a close friendship developed.

From the 1930s, several art collectors noticed Rieger, who mainly valued the masterful illumination of his works. Among his preferred motifs are the surroundings of Vienna, Vienna suburbs, Grinzing, Sievering, Klosterneuburg, Perchtoldsdorf and the Prater meadows.
