Description from the seller
Porcelain plate from China in Blue and White - Kangxi Era - Eggshell Quality
Technical description:
Exceptional porcelain plate from Kangxi period (1662-1722), Qing Dynasty. This piece features a radiating decoration of flower baskets and lotus-petal-shaped cartouches, executed in cobalt blue under glaze. The pigment shows a fusion effect characteristic of high-firing of this period, offering remarkable visual depth.
Notable specifications:
Delicacy of the pâte: The wall thickness is measured at 1.4 mm, placing this object in the rare category of fine-pored porcelains.
Translucency: The kaolin quality allows perfect translucency to light, revealing the purity of the internal structure.
Mass: The object has a light weight of 265 grams for a diameter of 21 cm, confirming a high-level technical mastery.
Timbre: The tone is crystalline, pure and prolonged, a sign of optimal vitrification.
Mark: The reverse bears the symbolic fragrance-burner mark (Ding) inscribed in a double blue circle, an emblematic scholar’s mark of the Kangxi reign.
Dimensions:
Diameter: 21 cm
Height: 3.5 cm
Thickness: 1.4 mm
Weight: 265 g
Condition:
The plate shows an ancient restoration invisible on the front face of quality dating from the 19th century (repair and touch-ups of paint under an organic varnish patinated by time). This restoration, now historic, bears witness to the precious value attributed to the object by European collectors since the last century. A hairline has been stabilized under this restoration.
Expert note:
The rarity of this object lies in the combination of its dimensions and its extreme delicacy (1.4 mm). Although Kangxi motifs are classical, such lightness on a 21 cm piece is a major distinguishing criterion for any Qing dynasty ceramic collector.
