The set is the Star Wars 3D Chess Game, also known as the "Schach" or "Saga Edition" version. It was originally produced in 1999 by companies such as Character Games and A La Carte to celebrate the release of Episode I: The Phantom Menace, but including characters from the entire classic trilogy.
Composition of the Set
The game is distinguished by the use of 3D statuettes instead of classic pieces, mounted on colored bases to distinguish the factions.
1. Light Faction (Rebels / Jedi)
The pieces have silver-colored bases.
King: Luke Skywalker
Queen: Princess Leia
Bishops: Obi-Wan Kenobi and Han Solo
Knights: C-3PO and R2-D2
Rooks: Yoda and Chewbacca (or sometimes X-Wing in some variants)
Pawns: Clone Trooper or Rebel soldiers
2. Dark Faction (Empire / Sith)
The pieces have gold-colored bases.
King: Darth Vader
Queen: Emperor Palpatine
Bishops: Darth Maul and Count Dooku
Knights: Boba Fett and Jango Fett
Rooks: Stormtrooper or Emperor’s Royal Guard
Pawns: TIE Fighter or Stormtrooper
