Arabesque courtyard, a 1901 oil on panel by Pierre Jean Van der Ouderaa (Belgium) from the 1900–1910 period, sold with frame.
Description from the seller
Oil painting on panel by Pierre Jean Van der Ouderaa, also known as Piet Van der Ouderaa (Antwerp, January 13, 1841 – there, January 5, 1915). It is an Oriental work that seems to take place in an Eastern country.
Seeking the exotic, he accompanied Albert Cogels (1842–1884) on a journey to Algiers, Tunis, Oran and Spain. After returning to Belgium in 1869 he devoted himself to history painting. He produced ‘romantic fantasies’ in the style of Hendrik Leys and De Keyser, as well as the large-scale historical compositions for which he became known.
