Petrus Regout Maastricht – Liberation plaque “Liberation of Maastricht by the Americans” – 1944 – Delft blue style - made in the 1950s.

A particularly historic commemorative plaque by Petrus Regout & Co from Maastricht, produced to commemorate the liberation of Maastricht on 14 September 1944. The plaque bears the text:

“Liberation of Maastricht by the Americans – 14 Sept. 1944”

Centrally depicted is an American soldier with the American flag in the background, flanked by the Dutch flag and recognizable views of Maastricht. At the bottom, a bridge over the Meuse is shown. The whole is executed in fine blue-and-white decoration in the traditional Delft blue style.

The backside bears the mark:
“Maastricht – The First Liberated City of Holland”
with the mark of Petrus Regout & Co Maastricht.

This plaque forms a remarkable piece of Dutch war history and is beloved by collectors of WWII memorabilia, Maastricht history, and Dutch ceramics.
