Grand urn with lid in alabaster and gilded bronze – Volterra, XX century
Magnificent decorative alabaster urn turned from Volterra, famous Italian center of artistic alabaster work, characterized by a striking presence and natural veins of extraordinary beauty.
The object immediately impresses with the elegance of classical shapes reinterpreted in a 20th-century decorative key: ovoid body supported by a square base, refined profiles in chased gilded bronze and splendid figurative feet in the shape of a dolphin, echoed also in the precious zoomorphic knob of the lid. A refined and scenographic ornamental detail, typical of the Italian decorative taste inspired by the neoclassical and marine repertoire.
The alabaster shows deep and warm tones, with spectacular amber, honey and brown shades, typical of high-quality artisanal work from Volterra. In light, the veining creates extremely scenographic material effects, making each piece unique and unrepeatable.
