Elegant decorative ewer in brass and bronze with a nuanced patina, dating from the second half of the 19th century (Napoleon III period). This piece fits perfectly with the Neo-Renaissance taste highly prized under the Second Empire.
The body of the ewer is richly adorned with a high-relief frieze depicting putti (cherubs) scenes set amidst vines and foliage.
Notable details:
• Handle: Magnificent, sculpted handle topped by a finely chased child bust.
• Base & neck: Base and neck adorned with gadroons and vine tendrils.
• Casting work: Very fine precision in the detailing of faces and vegetation.
• Patina: Beautiful original patina with golden reflections in places, highlighting the reliefs.
