Description from the seller

"Stéréoscope Magnétique Planox". France, circa 1890-1900. for viewing slides in three-dimensional form.

This fascinating object is a Planox magnetic stereoscope (also known as a stereoscopic viewer), produced in France at the beginning of the 20th century. The stereoscope is called magnetic because the slides, which are on glass, have at the top a small metal plate so they can be attached with a magnet inside the device to be observed. At the rear of the instrument there is a metal case painted black and inside there is a light bulb that turns on to illuminate the slides on a plate to be observed as shown in the photos. Furthermore the instrument is made of rosewood with oculars and black bakelite; all of its components are original. It is accompanied by several stereoscopic slides on glass plates as shown in the photos. Above the oculars there is a small metal plate with the inscription "Stéréoscope Magnétique Planox". Given its rarity and functioning, this antique stereoscope deserves a place of honor in a good collection of antique photography-related objects.
