Description from the seller
A delicate West Asian gold pendant model in the shape of a leaf. Thin gold leaves were hammered to form four petals arranged vertically with gaps between them. Each petal is rounded at the top and tapers to a point. At the top is a gold loop for hanging. Minor signs of wear compatible with age, such as chips on the edges.
In antiquity, many great civilizations inhabited the region of West Asia, and their wealth and prosperity are evidenced by the highly sophisticated jewelry made from precious metals. Gold was hammered into a thin sheet and shaped into various forms. Gold and silver jewelry featured gold granulation, glass inlays, and semiprecious stones, as well as detailed engravings. Very fine granulating and filigree work were central to West Asian jewelry making and were later adopted by the Greeks, Etruscans, and Romans.
