Ngil Monkey - Bulu / Boulou - Cameroon
Located in the border area between Cameroon and Gabon, the Bulu are part of the Fang group.
Like the Fang of southern Cameroon, famous for their large white masks, the Bulu also practiced the Ngil ritual to combat witchcraft and poisoning.
Ngi is the gorilla, the formidable animal with which the initiate identifies himself after acceptance into the secret society.
Their monkey statues are marked by the invention of simple, rounded shapes, and by a keen accuracy in observing the animal's stance.
The Bulu admit that there is a part of their ancestors in the symbolism of the gorilla.
