Description from the seller
French Silver Fish Server with Bone Handle – Paris (c. 1840) – Minerva 800 – Belgian Import Mark
An elegant and refined French silver fish server dating to the mid-19th century.
This beautiful serving piece is made in solid silver (Minerva head, 2nd standard, 800/1000) and bears a Belgian import hallmark used between 1831 and 1868, confirming its early circulation across European markets.
The blade is richly decorated with finely engraved scrollwork, floral motifs, and a central cartouche, demonstrating the high level of craftsmanship typical of French silver from this period. The junction between handle and blade is adorned with a sculptural shell motif, adding depth and elegance to the design.
The handle is crafted from natural bone, providing a warm contrast to the silver and offering a comfortable grip. This combination of materials was highly appreciated in the 19th century for both aesthetic and practical reasons.
Originally intended as a fish server, this piece can also be used as:
a cake or pastry server
a serving piece for desserts
an elegant table accessory for refined dining settings
Its decorative character makes it equally suitable as a display object in a classic or country-style interior, perfectly fitting a Spring & Garden table setting.
Dimensions:
Length: approx. 34 cm
Width: approx. 7 cm
Weight: approx. 122 g
Condition:
In good antique condition with normal signs of age and use, including light surface scratches. The bone handle is well preserved. Please view the photos carefully as they form part of the description.
