Russian Orthodox brass icon with three saints and blue enamel – 19th century
Lovely Russian Orthodox brass icon depicting three saints, rendered in relief and enriched with blue enamel. This type of compact devotional icon was produced in the 19th century as a personal prayer object or household icon within the Russian Orthodox tradition.
Description
The icon shows three standing saint figures with halos, depicted according to traditional Orthodox iconography. The central figure holds a book or scroll, while the other saints are portrayed in a ceremonial stance. Above the scene there is a Church Slavonic inscription.
The background is partly filled with bright blue enamel, which forms a beautiful contrast with the warm brass surface and adds extra depth to the depiction. The simple frame and clean composition emphasize the understated spiritual character of the object.
At the top there is an integrated hanging eye, indicating that the icon was intended to be hung as a home devotion or personal protective icon.
