La Selvanella Melini Chianti Classico Riserva 2021, 6 bottles of 0.75 L, Italy.
Description from the seller
The Chianti Classico Riserva 'La Selvanella' from the extensive Tuscan winery Melini is a Sangiovese with a historic significance, having been the first Chianti Classico labeled as a single-vineyard expression. Produced for the first time ever with the 1969 vintage, the 'La Selvanella' cru demonstrates the foresight that has always distinguished the Melini winery's production spirit. The vineyard, which extends over 50 hectares, is located in the Radda in Chianti area and is the result of a mass selection of Sangiovese planted in the 1960s.
'La Selvanella' Chianti Classico Riserva by Melini is made from 100% Sangiovese grapes grown in a single vineyard rooted in alberese, galestro, and calcareous marl soils, located at an altitude of approximately 400 meters above sea level with an excellent southwest exposure. After harvesting, the grapes are transferred to the cellar where they are pressed in stainless steel tanks, where alcoholic fermentation takes place in contact with the skins for approximately three weeks. Once fermentation is complete, the wine is racked into French oak barrels for 30 months of aging before bottling and a further year of bottle aging.
In the glass, the Chianti Classico Riserva Melini 'La Selvanella' reveals a ruby red color with subtle garnet highlights. The aromatic mosaic is composed of intriguing aromas of raspberry and ripe plum, undergrowth, balsamic herbs, toasted almond, leather, and sweet spices such as cinnamon and vanilla. Complex and elegant on the palate, where full warmth combines with an excellent fresh-savory thrust, creating a flavorful and persistent finish with fruity and spicy sensations consistent with the aroma.
