AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Offered: a splendid IKORA glass bowl in Art Deco style, manufactured in Germany in the 1920s–1930s of the last century by WMF (Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik). The bowl is characterized by an elegant, rounded bowl form with a wide flaring rim and striking decoration in warm red, white, and transparent tints. The marbled and crackle-like decoration gives the object a particularly artistic appearance and strongly recalls the glass techniques popular during the Art Deco period.

This bowl was produced using the Ikora technique developed by WMF, whereby different types of glass, colors, and metal oxides are combined to create unique, shimmering, and marbled surfaces. The principal designer behind the Ikora glasswork was Karl Wiedmann, who worked as head designer of the Decorative Arts Department at WMF from 1926 to 1945. Wiedmann was a contemporary of Andries Copier. This is also reflected in the designs and commonly occurring crackle style. Wiedmann played a central role in the development of the Ikora technique and designed countless iconic vases, bowls, and glass objects that are now regarded as valuable collectibles. Most Ikora pieces date from the late 1920s and early 1930s.

The bowl has an intense warm red color palette with beautifully white marbled decor, combined with a richly decorated interior in which organic lines and color gradients are visible. Through the interplay of colors and the translucent glass, a lively and atmospheric effect is created when light falls on the object. The design and decoration harmonize beautifully with the interwar period style and make this bowl a decorative collectible.
