Elio Martinelli’s Modello Step 1845/60 pendant lamp, aluminium, black, with two independent stepped metal calottes whose interlocking, offset configuration shapes light and form, diameter 62 cm, total height 100 cm including cable, made in Italy and dating from the 1960s–1970s, in good used condition with minor signs of age and the light in working order.
Description from the seller
Vintage pendant lamp by Elio Martinelli, Model Step 1845/60, from the 1970s. The Step lamp represents one of the pinnacles of 1970s modular design. Its structure is composed of two independent lacquered metal shades, characterized by a profile of concentric steps (hence the name "Step"). The genius of this project lies in its dynamism: the two elements are stackable and can be oriented asymmetrically. This allows the user to "sculpt" the light and the form of the object, transitioning from a closed, symmetric dome configuration to an open, deconstructed, and futuristic one.
The inside of the smaller, inner shade is finished in white to maximize light diffusion, creating a stark contrast with the dark exterior.
The 60 cm diameter gives it a strong visual presence, ideal for overhanging dining tables or large living areas.
When the two shades are offset, light filters through the "steps", creating a play of shadows and reflections typical of the period's rationalist architecture.
Dimensions:
Diameter cm 62; total height of the shade cm 22; total height with cord cm 100
