An Italian-made glazed ceramic leopard sculpture titled Leopardo, signed and measuring 60 cm high by 30 cm wide by 26 cm deep, in a Mid-Century Modern/Hollywood Regency style.
Description from the seller
This statue is a classic example of decorative artistic ceramic, Italian craftsmanship in the Bassano style or the famous one dating back to the mid-20th century (the '60s/'70s).
And here is a detailed, key-point description:
1. Subject and Pose
The sculpture depicts a leopard seated on its hind legs. The animal is portrayed in an aggressive or warning stance: its mouth is open in a roar, showing the teeth, pronounced canines and the tongue. The gaze is directed slightly upward, giving a proud and dynamic presence.
2. Colors and Decoration
The piece stands out for an unusual and stylized coloration:
Base color: The body is not the classic yellow-gold, but features a shade that shifts from creamy white to pink/purple (especially visible on the muzzle, chest and along the back).
Spots: The spots are deep black, irregular yet harmonious in distribution. On the face they are small dots, while on the body they become larger and oval, mimicking the natural pattern of the feline.
Eyes: A striking detail is eye color — a vivid acidic/yellowish green, which contrasts with the pinkish tones of the muzzle.
3. Material and Finish
Material: Glazed ceramic
Finish: The surface features a very reflective glossy glaze, which enhances the sculpture’s curves and gives it a luxurious, pop look.
4. Style and Placement
This type of giant sculpture (often called “Hollywood Regency” or “Mid-Century Modern”) was an iconic piece for entrances to villas or elegant living rooms between the '60s and '80s. Today they are highly sought-after collectibles for maximalist or vintage décors.
