Pair of two wooden wall appliques from the late 19th century in Antique Baroque Revival style, with two candle holders and gold leaf detailing, each featuring an oval miniature oil painting of a coastal landscape, dimensions 13 cm wide by 60 cm high by 11 cm deep, made in Italy and in good worn condition with age marks.
Description from the seller
Pair of important two-flame wall sconces for candles, in carved wood with gold leaf, dating from the late 19th century.
The central body is characterized by an oval reserve that houses a refined miniature painting, executed in oil on panel, depicting a coastal landscape with leafy trees and classically-inspired architectures in the background.
The rich wooden structure echoes the ornamental repertoire of the Barocchetto and Rococo ( Revival Style): it is surmounted by an ostentatious asymmetrical shell-cornice (rocaille) from which a vertical development of large stylized acanthus leaves extends. In the lower part, the decoration closes with a foliate pendant end.
From the base of the oval radiate two curved arms in gilded metal, decorated with foliate elements in sheet metal, ending with bobeches molded like a floral corolla for housing the candles.
The appliques are in good condition, show signs of wear due to age since they are more than 100 years old.
