Description from the seller

Satellit Transistor 5000 represents the first model of Grundig's famous Satellit series. It is one of the most advanced and iconic portable radios of its era. Produced in 1964, it combines very high technical performance with an elegant and functional aesthetic. Designed for shortwave enthusiasts and for those seeking uncompromising quality, this model stands out for its wooden radio cabinet, the attention to detail typical of German manufacturing, and its extraordinary multi-band reception capability, which at the time made it a state-of-the-art instrument for both home use and for travelers and amateur radio operators.

It is a model that has become difficult to obtain, especially in full working condition.

This specimen has been carefully preserved and presents overall good aesthetic conditions considering its age. Notable is a sign of aesthetic aging on the top left, and some dents on the speaker grille, acceptable on a device over 60 years old, and which contribute to its charm and to telling its story.

The radio’s operation is excellent.
The radio receives on all available bands, including the shortwave spreads actuated by a rotating drum on the left side.
All the lighting is working.
The audio is fantastic. In particular on FM it is impressive; warm, clear and powerful, with a unique timbre also thanks to the wooden cabinet and the dual internal speaker. The radio has separate bass and treble controls, with highly responsive controls.
Excellent receiving capacity for world stations on shortwave. The rotating drum runs smoothly and the handy fine-tuning feature to best center distant stations is operational. During shortwave testing it picked up stations from Europe, Russia, and Asia and national hams.

For safe use of the radio an external modern power supply has been installed (the battery option may have been removed, but since I only tested with the power supply I cannot confirm).

The original antenna is functional, very long and straight. Note that one of the last segments appears a little crushed at the tip, a sign of possible repair. It is best to use it gently, avoiding pushing or pulling the last part of the antenna with force. However, in testing it proved solid with excellent reception. The rear also has the input for an external antenna, to further increase the already excellent reception.
The small needle signal indicator is working but occasionally stops, probably the result of a prolonged period of disuse of the radio.

Historic radio for collectors, but fantastic also for everyday use, with a unique sound and excellent reception capacity.
