Description from the seller
Important painting depicting a countryside scene.
Oil on cardboard.
A painting of excellent workmanship, whose pictorial surface is particularly meticulous with passages of notable quality.
Signed Giuseppe Cavalla: Turin 1859 – 1935
Began art under his father Francesco, a decorator, studied at the Albertina Academy with A. Moja, E. Gamba and A. Gastaldi. The academic training determinately influenced the artist's production, never detached from conventional professionalism and essentially tied to a theoretical approach from the same teaching role at the Academy that he held for forty years. He specialized in sacred-character mural decoration, often working in collaboration with his father and with R. Morgari. Cavalla was also a portraitist, scenographer and author of graceful genre scenes (Idyll, Turin, Galleria Civica d'Arte Moderna) that he exhibited at the annual shows of the Promotrice torinese (1884, Bonjour mon vieil ami; 1896, Preparation for exams; 1898, At the charity bank). (Comanducci ed. 1962)
No conservation issues evident.
Size of painting 45x33 cm
Frame 47x60 cm
A painting of great pictorial quality, which follows all the canonical standards of the period
Provenance: private collection
The painting will be packed and shipped professionally and insured.
