Alessandro Milesi (1856-1945) attributed to
“ Venice ”

Year: around 1940
Attribution:
Alessandro Milesi was born on 29 April 1856 in San Trovaso.
Due to his father's precarious health, he was forced to provide for the family, starting to work as a shop boy in a tobacco shop.
In 1869 he enrolled at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts under the guidance of Napoleone Nani, who secured him a job as a retoucher with a photographer.
During his course of study he won several prizes; fellow students at the Academy were Luigi Nono, Egisto Lancerotto, Giacomo Favretto and Ettore Tito.
In 1886 Milesi married Maria Ciardi, sister of his friend and fellow painter Guglielmo Ciardi.
Following Nani’s lessons, who had meanwhile been appointed director and head of painting at the Cignaroli Academy in Verona, Milesi completed his studies there.
Returning to Venice, he devoted himself exclusively to painting; in 1899 he joined the Corporation of Italian Painters and Sculptors in order to give greater momentum to art.
He exhibited at important shows such as the National Exhibition in Milan and the International Exhibition in Boston.
He volunteered to go to World War I.
Alessandro Milesi died on 19 October 1945 in Venice.
