AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Beautiful sculpture, stool, and children’s chair in one, from the Vitra brand and designed by Charles & Ray Eames in the United States of America. The item is red in color, and on top sits the official Vitra emblem, and on the bottom the decorative object is signed.

This Vitra Elephant was originally designed in the early 1940s by Charles and Ray Eames. As Charles and Ray Eames spent many years developing and refining a technique for bending three-dimensional forms from plywood, they gradually designed a range of furniture and sculptures. Of all those original designs, the two-piece elephant proved to be the greatest technical challenge due to its strong multiple curves. The techniques available at the time were not able to realize mass production of the elephant. The 14-year-old Lucia Eames, Charles’s daughter, received a prototype that was later lent for an exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in New York in 1946. This prototype remains in the possession of the Eames family.

In the early 2000s, the Eames Elephant was released in plastic, making it accessible to the originally intended audience: children. Thus the elephant can be used as an iconic design piece but also as a toy.

Vitra is a unique, and well-known name in the design world. Since the 1950s the company has designed and produced beautiful design furniture, lighting, and accessories. Twentieth-century designs by George Nelson, Charles and Ray Eames, Isamu Noguchi, Jean Prouvé, and Verner Panton form the basis of the Vitra Home Collection. They design products that are known for their durability and uniqueness, and in form they are often so distinctive that you have probably seen them before! Vitra products are designed to last a lifetime. Regardless of your taste or the size of the space, the Vitra collection will appeal to you. Truly design classics, then.
