Steingut vase in Bauhaus Art Déco style, designed by Walther Stock for Velten-Vordamm in Germany around 1920, with a globular form and a deeply black glazed mouth both inside and out on a warm ivory ground, bearing the Werkmarke “VOR DAM” in a rectangle and the model number “M/5” on the base, dimensions about 7 cm high and 14 cm in diameter at the widest point, in excellent museum condition.

Stoneware vase, Bauhaus Art Deco — Walther Stock for Velten-Vordamm — circa 1920
For sale is a rare and museum-grade Art Deco ceramic vase from the Bauhaus era, produced in the 1920s by the renowned stoneware factory Velten-Vordamm in Germany.
The design for the distinctive decoration is by artist Walther Stock (active 1910–1925).
The vase impresses with its classically compressed spherical form, featuring a flared mouth ring glazed deep black on both inside and outside.
The body features a dense, high-gloss black foliate vine pattern that starkly contrasts with the warm ivory-colored ground.
Similar designs from this series are in the collection of the Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum.
On the underside there is the typical, glaze-engraved factory mark “VOR DAM” in a rectangle, as well as the etched model number “M/5”.
