Description from the seller
Rare Lithographed Tin Box - Coronation of King George V (1911) - Rowntree & Co.
Historical and Artistic Description
Fascinating and rare rectangular tin box, produced in the early 1900s by the renowned confectionery company Rowntree & Co. (York, England). This piece was not merely a chocolate container, but a true mass-communication instrument of the Edwardian era: items like this were made to celebrate and spread among the people the great events of the Crown, functioning as a lasting "illustrated newspaper".
The lid features refined lithographed portraits within gilded medallions:
On the left: His Majesty King George V in full uniform.
On the right: Her Majesty Queen Mary.
In the center: The British Royal Coat of Arms with the lion and unicorn, topped by the imperial crown.
Item Details
Manufacturer: Rowntree & Co., Cocoa & Chocolate Makers, York, England (brand visible on the base).
Era: 1911 - 1912 ( coronation period).
Material: Lithographed tin.
Dimensions: 13.5 cm x 6 cm.
Height: 1 cm.
The item is an original antique. As visible in the photographs, it shows evident and honest signs of wear, scratches, and oxidation that attest to its authenticity and centuries-old history. This "patina" is particularly appreciated by collectors who seek pieces that have not been restored and preserve the charm of lived history.
The item is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.
