Antique German Black Forest cuckoo clock, circa 1920–1940, made of wood with a mechanical, multi‑day movement; strikes every half hour with a bell and features a hand‑carved leaf motif and bird’s head crest, in a dark patina, not currently in full working order and in reasonable used condition with possible missing small parts and some old woodworm traces.
Description from the seller
Beautiful classic original Black Forest cuckoo clock (circa 1920/1940) from the period before World War II, richly hand-carved in a traditional foliate motif with a bird-beak crown. A characterful and authentic piece with a handsome dark patina and many original details preserved.
The clock runs, but not for long, strikes as it should, and the cuckoo comes out, but sometimes needs some help to get back inside. Given its age, the mechanism deserves some attention and adjustment to function again in fully optimal and long-lasting fashion. The return of the cuckoo is probably due to an aging spring. Moreover, the case shows some old, inactive woodworm traces that reinforce the piece’s character and history.
A atmospheric and honest antique cuckoo clock for lovers of original pre-war Black Forest clocks, decoration, or restoration projects with potential.
