Description from the seller
This bronze situla, dating from the Late Period of Egypt (664 - 332 BC), is a testament to Egyptian ritual tradition and the use of sacred vessels in religious ceremonies. Measuring 12 cm high by 4 cm wide and deep, it has a stylised, elongated shape, with a conical base and a cylindrical neck topped by two suspension rings, suggesting its use in libations or rituals linked to temples and cults.
The smooth design and absence of visible inscriptions on the surface may indicate that this piece had a functional rather than commemorative purpose, or that its decoration may have worn away over time. Its metal structure has developed a dark patina with greenish remains, evidencing the natural oxidation process of bronze over the centuries.
The Late Period of Egypt was a period of great political transformation, with the domination of foreign dynasties such as the Kushites and the Persians. Despite these changes, Egyptian religious traditions continued to flourish, and temples continued to play a fundamental role in society. Situlas, used in purification rituals and offerings, were commonly employed in the worship of gods such as Isis and Osiris, whose popularity continued during this period.
Acquired from a French private collection, in the 80's.
-The piece includes an authenticity certificate.
