Description from the seller
VANITAS
The combination of a skull with a little bird encloses a powerful and deep symbolism. While the skull evokes the harshness of material reality and the inevitability of time, the bird is a fragile, light, dynamic creature. This visual contrast highlights the human duality: we are made of heavy matter destined to vanish, yet we host a lively, free, immortal spark.
Original exemplar, signed on the front, created with natural pigments and wax, using egg tempera on a chalked wooden panel and prepared with Bologna plaster and rabbit glue. A certificate of authenticity is attached.
Rita Bucci, the author of this work, studies ancient techniques and styles. She has held exhibitions and competitions; her works are present in private collections and public ones in Italy and abroad. Specializes in Byzantine iconography and medieval painting.
2nd Prize Byzantine Art at the Eremi di Gravina, Edition 2023
Constanza d'Altavilla Prize — competition "Parole dal Medioevo e...", Edition 2024
