Description from the seller

Ancient ecclesiastical seal – 19th century

Ancient solid-brass seal mounted on a turned wooden handle, bearing the imprint of a mitred bishop holding his crozier. The peripheral legend reads: “S. AIGNAN DE MOULINS-LES-NOYERS · Près Dᵢocᵉˢᵉ DE SENS”

This is evidently a parish or confraternity seal, probably made in the 19th century judging by the engraving style (naive but neat line work, classical text layout, regular capital letters) and the shape of the handle. The brass shows an authentic old patina, with no overpolishing. The wooden handle has a few purple ink stains, typical of use in a parish house or sacristy.

Dimensions: Total height: 12 cm - Diameter of the matrix: 3.5 cm

Provenance: Private collection.

Photos are an integral part of the description of the objects and complement their presentation. Please examine them carefully before making any commitment.

The item will be carefully packed and shipped with a tracking number to ensure fast and secure delivery.
