Icon - Christ Pantocrator - Metal

Russian Orthodox icon depicting Christ Pantocrator, presented under a rich oklad in finely engraved and repousé silvered metal.

Christ is shown blessing with his right hand and holding the open Gospel with his left hand, in accordance with traditional Byzantine and Russian iconography.

The icon stands out for the decorative quality of its metal covering, adorned with delicately worked geometric and floral motifs, as well as for the intensity of Christ's face visible through the oklad. The radiating background around the nimbus enhances the spiritual and aesthetic presence of the whole.

Russian workmanship from the late 19th century or early 20th century.
Back covered with antique velvet.

An object of devotion but also highly decorative, typical of imperial Russian Orthodox religious art.
